Broad Spectrum

A ‘Broad-Spectrum’ CBD product contains a broad (but not full) range of extracts from the cannabis plant. The Cannabinoids, Terpenes, and Flavonoids are all extracted from the Cannabis Plant and the THC compound is removed. A broad-spectrum CBD product is not as potent as a ‘Full spectrum’ product but contains more plant compounds than a CBD ‘Isolate’ product.

Cannabidiol (CBD)

Also known as ‘CBD’, cannabidiol is a non-psychoactive compound found in the Cannabis plant.

Cannabinoids

Cannabinoids are chemical compounds found in both Cannabis plants and the human body. Cannabinoids fuse to receptors in the human Endocannabinoid system which causes a variety of therapeutic effects. THC and CBD are the commonly known and used Cannabinoids.

Cannabinoid Receptor

Cannabinoid Receptors are found throughout the body’s endocannabinoid system, they respond to cannabinoids such as CBD and THC.

Cannabis

Cannabis is a group of three flowering plant species in the Cannabaceae family (Cannabis Sativa, Cannabis Indica and Cannabis Ruderalis). Cannabis is a group of plants known for their psychoactive properties when inhaled or ingested. However, when removing the psychoactive compound THC, cannabis has many more therapeutic uses, most notably CBD.

Carrier Oil

Refers to the oil that CBD gets dissolved into to create products that can be ingested, used topically or smoked. Common oils used are coconut oil, hemp seed oil, MCT oil, and olive oil. Check your product’s ingredients list to see which carrier oil your CBD has been added to.

CBD

CBD is the abbreviation of Cannabidiol. CBD is a compound found in the Cannabis plant that is non- psychoactive and can have many beneficial effects within the mind and body.

CBD Oil

CCBD Oil is an ingestible liquid CBD product. CBD cannabinoids are infused into a carrier oil.

Certificate of Analysis (COA)

Also referred to as a ‘lab report’, a Certificate of Analysis certifies that a product has undergone testing to prove it’s contents, purity and safety. It is important when purchasing CBD products to check if a Certificate of Analysis is present and available to view.

Decarboxylation

Phytocannabinoids such as CBD and THC occur naturally in acid form before the decarboxylation process. Decarboxylation is a process that removes the carboxyl group from a molecule. When a carbon atom is removed from a carbon chain in Cannabis, carbon dioxide is released. This process then activates the cannabinoid, unlocking it’s therapeutic effects. This is usually done with heat and/ or time.

Edibles

A consumable CBD product. Most commonly seen as chewable sweets, however, the market of edible CBD products is expanding into cookies, chocolates, tea bags, drinks and even breakfast cereals. The ever expanding variety of edible products entering the CBD market means more choice and opportunity on how we can introduce and include CBD into our day to day lives.

Endocannabinoids

A term to describe the group of cannabinoids that are naturally occurring within the body.

Endocannabinoid system

A biological system found in the Human Body. This system is responsible for regulating balance between many important systems within the body. These include; the central nervous system, cardiovascular system and skeletal system. The Endocannabinoid system contains receptors that respond to cannabinoids. CBD is a cannabinoid and it has been found to help improve the overall performance of the Endocannabinoid System.

Entourage Effect

When a CBD product contains a full spectrum of cannabinoids, terpenes and essential oils from the cannabis plant, they can all work together to heighten the beneficial therapeutic effects of CBD. This is referred to as the “Entourage Effect”.

Flavonoids

Phytonutrients found in many plants and most fruit and vegetables.

Full Spectrum

A Full Spectrum CBD product contains the full range of extracts from the cannabis plant. The Cannabinoids, Terpenes and Flavonoids are all extracted from the Cannabis Plant and the THC compound is removed. A full spectrum CBD product is more potent than a ‘broad spectrum’ product contains more plant compounds than a CBD ‘Isolate’ product.

Hemp

Hemp is a Cannabis plant with very low levels of THC (psychoactive properties). Hemp contains a higher ratio of CBD to THC than the other strains of Cannabis plant. It has been used for thousands of years across many industries and is believed to have more than 50,000 uses. Hemp derived CBD products are legal in the UK and Europe provided they contain no more than 0.2% THC.

Hemp seed oil

Oil extracted from the Hemp Seed. Hemp Seed Oil does not contain CBD.

ISO Certification

WISO is short for International Organisation for Standardisation. “International Standards make things work. They give world-class specifications for products, services and systems, to ensure quality, safety and efficiency. They are instrumental in facilitating international trade.” ISO is the most important and recognised standard for laboratories that test Cannabis products.

Isolate

Isolate literally means isolated CBD compound, extracted from the Cannabis plant. All other cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids and plant extract are removed to leave 99% pure CBD extract.

MCT Oil

MCT short for Medium Chain Triglycerides is a carrier oil made from fatty acids found in foods like Coconut oil that help increase the absorption of CBD into the body.

Phytocannabinoids

Phytocannabinoids are cannabinoids that are naturally produced in Cannabis plants, such as CBD and THC.

Sativa

Cannabis Sativa is one of three primary Cannabis species along with Cannabis Indica and Cannabis Ruderalis.

Sublingual

When a product such as a tincture advises you to apply the product ‘sublingually’, it is referring to the area under your tongue. If you hold a product under the tongue for a short while, usually 60 seconds, the veins in this area absorb the CBD directly into the bloodstream.

Terpene

Terpenes are molecules found in most plants, herbs, fruits and vegetables and give plants their variety of natural aromas.

THC – Tetrahydrocannabinol

THC is the primary psychoactive cannabinoid found in the Cannabis plant. CBD products found on our website all contain less than the legal limit of 0.2% THC.

Third Party Lab Report

TA third party lab report refers to product testing conducted by an unbiased 3rd party to produce accurate results. All legitimate and worthwhile CBD products should have a Third Party Lab Report. We do not stock CBD brands or products without these reports and we make them available for you to download on every product page.

Tincture

A tincture is a liquid ingestible CBD product. CBD is dissolved into a carrier oil and administered under the tongue using a dropper bottle. Tinctures are the most popular and commonly used format for administering CBD into the body.

Topical

A topical is a product that is applied to the body externally. A topical can be in oil, cream or balm form. A topical containing CBD can aid in the relief dry and irritated skin as well as aches and pains.

 Whole Plant Extract

All plant terpenes, and cannabinoids were extracted from the hemp plant along with CBD.
